Retirement or Disability?
For those who are approaching or already 62 years old and are unable to work due to symptoms from their medical condition(s) there is a benefit to proving your disability instead of taking early retirement.

Social Security retirement benefits are reduced for each month a person received benefits before full retirement age (age 67).

If you prove your disability prior to age 67 you will receive your full retirement age benefits.

When you reach full retirement age, your disability benefits automatically convert to retirement benefits. The amount you receive will remain the same.
